EMDR therapy has become popular in recent years because it is proven effective in treating trauma and PTSD. Several of our clinicians are trained in EMDR and can guide you through the structured process of this treatment.
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an effective approach for treating trauma and distressing life experiences through a structured process that includes bilateral stimulation with guided eye movements. During sessions, clients work on reprocessing traumatic memories while engaging in these movements. Many clients report a reduction in symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression.
At Dandelion Therapy Group, several of our clinicians are EMDR-trained and have received training from EMDRIA, a leading organization that credentials the use of EMDR therapy. They are trained in guiding clients through the structured process of reprocessing traumatic memories and can help ease emotions linked to difficult experiences.
EMDR is very well-researched and often has quicker processing of distressing experiences compared to traditional talk therapy, which allows clients to experience improved mental health and well-being in a relatively short period.
EMDR therapy can create lasting changes in one’s self-perceptions and beliefs, leading to better coping skills, improved relationships, and a stronger sense of well-being.
If you’re struggling with the impact of trauma or overwhelming emotions, consider trying EMDR therapy with one of our trained clinicians.

Common Questions About EMDR Therapy in Florida
-
Extremely. EMDR is one of the most researched and evidence-backed treatments in the world, endorsed by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Veterans Affairs (VA). It is specifically designed to treat PTSD, but it is also highly effective for "everyday" traumas, performance anxiety, and depression.
The Evidence: Research published in the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research found that 84% to 90% of people with single-incident trauma no longer meet the criteria for a PTSD diagnosis after just three 90-minute sessions. Furthermore, newer 2025 studies have confirmed that EMDR provides similar or even faster symptom relief than traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for many survivors.

It’s helpful to think of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as a way to "reboot" how your brain stores difficult memories. In a typical session at Dandelion Therapy Group, your therapist will guide you through what we call bilateral stimulation—usually by having you follow a light with your eyes or using gentle tapping. This process helps your brain move "stuck" traumatic memories into a more healthy storage space. Unlike traditional talk therapy, you don’t have to go into exhaustive detail about the event if you aren't ready; we focus on the physical sensations and emotions tied to the memory to help you find relief faster.

Yes. Many people are surprised to learn that virtual EMDR is just as potent as meeting in-person at our Florida office. We use specialized, HIPAA-compliant software that allows your therapist to lead you through bilateral stimulation (like a digital light bar) right on your screen. Recent 2024-2025 clinical reviews show no difference in success rates between in-office and virtual sessions. In fact, many of our clients find that processing trauma from the comfort and safety of their own home actually helps them stay more relaxed and engaged during the deeper work.

While many people first hear about EMDR as a treatment for major accidents, it is actually incredibly versatile. It is effective for what we call "Big T" trauma (major life-altering events) and "little t" trauma (repeated stressors that wear you down over time). At Dandelion Therapy Group, we use EMDR to help our Florida clients find relief from a wide range of problems, including:
Car Accidents & Physical Injuries: Helping your body let go of the "shock" and fear following an accident.
Childhood Neglect & Complex Trauma: Addressing long-standing patterns from your upbringing that affect your adult relationships.
Panic Attacks & Phobias: Breaking the cycle of intense fear and physical symptoms.
Grief & Loss: Processing the "stuck" emotions that make it hard to move forward after a loss.
Whether you visit us in-person or online, we'll help you determine if EMDR is the right tool to help you process these specific experiences and finally find some peace.
